On the first day, the theoretical instruction was conducted under the umbrella of the 13th international exhibition “Motor Show” at the premises of the IEC “Crocus Expo”. The participants considered a wide range of issues related to the peculiarities of design, operation, main troubles and repairs of ZF 6HP26, 722.9, AF-40-09G, U660E, A761E, A960E.
A number of valve body repair problems were discussed – such as valve wear, solenoid failures, speed and temperature sensors, etc.
Particular attention was given to the issues of valve body trouble-shooting.
In the afternoon, all the participants used an opportunity to have a look at the “AKPP Territory” display, presented at the “Motor Show” exhibition. The exhibitors were internationally acclaimed companies producing automatic transmissions, spare parts and equipment for trouble-shooting and repair: ALTO Products Corp, Precision Int, Sonnax Industries, SuperFlow, as well as its Russian counterparts: Automatika, AKPP-Centre, Transkit, Transparts and the State College of Automobile Transport #9, at the premises of which it is planned to organize training for specialists in automatic transmission repair. Besides, there were also representatives of Sussex Auto Parts and GFX companies.
Upon completion of the business program of the first day, the second draw of the “Golden Ten” Lottery was held. All the seminar attendees took part in it, but, unfortunately, the jackpot again remained in the prize fund. The authors of the questions – “Sonnax” and “Midland Automatic Transmissions” representatives – expressed a hope that in the next draw in 2010 their “cunning” questions would not be left unanswered, and the main prize of 30 000 rubles will be granted to the most knowledgeable participant!
On August 27, the seminar attendees visited the State College of Automobile Transport #9, at the premises of which practical training was successfully conducted. The torque converter rebuilding algorithm was considered in depth using the unique equipment complex TCRS. The participants saw for themselves the undeniable advantage of the work of this system, the distinctive features of which are high precision, speed and quality of the production level.
Dr. PhD F.I.M.I. William Henney (the UK), who is a technical advisor of the AutoTransTech company, demonstrated the practical application of the chassis dynamometer SF-66 for transmission trouble-shooting and the determination of operational characteristics under simulated road conditions.
Alan Smith (the UK), a technical expert at AutoTransTech, familiarized the participants with the peculiarities of valve body trouble-shooting using high-precision software (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system - VBDaq).
Many participants showed interest in the demonstration of the TF-80 valve body repair process. In particular, the employment of the state-of-the art solution from Sonnax – the Valve Body Fix, a fixing device for the orifice drilling-out, which to a large extent facilitates the valve body rebuilding process.
In the seminar program of the second day, all the present guests had a unique opportunity to get acquainted with the representatives of the ZF management, who came to the seminar for the first time: Hans-Peter Bach, Peter Corbe and Mikhail Yegorov (the company’s representative in Moscow), as well as a DYNEX representative – Mr. Masaki Urano. All the guests particularly noted the high level of the overall organization, the strong interest on the part of the participants and their willingness to discuss the most acute problems.
Every year, the seminar “Design, rebuilding and trouble-shooting of automatic transmissions” draws specialists from all over Russia and neighboring countries united by common goals – acquiring all the latest information, establishing new contacts, experience exchange. Some issues discussed at the 4th seminar required further consideration, and including them into the program of the 5th seminar made it possible for the new participants to join in the discussion of the most topical problems and to share their own experience and know-how.
The participants of the 5th seminar also had an opportunity to communicate with the recognized experts in AT repair: Dr. PhD F.I.M.I. William Henney (Midland Automatic Transmissions, an AutoTransTech technical advisor), Alan Smith (Midland Automatic Transmissions, an AutoTransTech technical advisor), Robbie Ferguson (Alto Product Corp., the USA), whose wealth of experience and practical knowledge always inspire keen interest. For the first time in Russia, Scott Jackson (Sonnax, the USA) gave a lecture – the attendees appreciated his presentation as highly professional and accessible.
The distinctive feature of the 2009 seminar was the unprecedented number of applications! Unfortunately, only those who registered in time were able to take part in the seminar.
All in all, the 5th seminar drew 96 specialists from various regions of Russia, Belarus, Israel, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Moldova, Turkmenistan and Ukraine.
We express our gratitude to all the specialists for taking part in the seminar and hope for further cooperation!
Thanks a million! We wish you great success in your work!
